Q&A: Does it sound like I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?

Question by : Does it sound like I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?
I always thought that this was what happened to regular people, but I’ve started talking about it and it seems like nobody can relate to what I am going through. Not even my parents.

I would say that I’ve been getting something like diarrhea twice every month. When I mean diarrhea I say that a major bowel movement that comes out rapidly like a tap and is very liquid (compared to normal bowel movements). And I FEEL THIS EXTREME PAIN IN MY STOMACH (the ab area) that is unbearable and makes me panic to get to a bathroom. The pain is so unbearable when my stomach starts getting gasy that I can’t concentrate on anything and I feel like panicing.

I thought this was just regular diarrhea and what everybody felt, but none of my friends or family go through this or anything liike it. I also drink a lot of water and don’t eat abnormal foods…I dunno whats going on.

Anyone with experience with Lexapro, please read?

Question by Megan: Anyone with experience with Lexapro, please read?
Physical symptoms of anxiety coming back after being on Lexapro for 6 months?
Has anyone else found that they suffer more from the physical symptoms (nausea, hot flushes, shaky, headaches, diarrhoea) rather than the scared typical anxiety attack? I suffer from that as well as depression. When I first started Lexapro (10mg) i also took 2 months of Clonazepam at night (.5mg). The Lexapro has been working really well until just recently when I have been getting so angry and frustrated at everyday things. Things I would usually ignore, now make me really angry, most just before my period so some of it will be PMS as well. But I have also been having the anxiety symptoms back as well. My doc told me to up the lexapro dose to 20mg.. not to wean up to it, just to double it and she said I shouldnt have any side effects from doing that. Has anyone else done this? The first night I took the increased dose, the next day I have increased anxiety and felt horrible so last night I just took the 10mg. But then even this morning I feel horrible.. Do you think I need the Clonazepam for a little while until the new dose settles? Any advice or personal experiences would be great to hear, I have a husband who doesnt understand any of this so to hear from people that do is really helpful.

If someone has been on Lexapro for quite a few months, it’s typically fine to go from 10mg to 20mg rather than ramping up. It takes awhile for your body to adjust to the new medication level, so I’d stick with the 20mg dose you were ordered and see if your symptoms improve in the next week or two.

As you probably know, frustration, anxiety and anger are symptoms of depression. The increased dosage of Lexapro should help, especially if that med helped before. If you don’t find improvement in a couple weeks, as your doctor about switching to another NSSRI or SSRI that might be more effective for you. Sometimes it’s hard to find the right anti-depressant for each individual patient. One medicine might be wonderful for one person but horrible for the next. It’s like having a handful of keys and trying to find one that works in a particular lock.

Good luck to you. Depression is a difficult thing to deal with, for the sufferer and their loved ones. Your husband is lucky enough to not have personal experience with depression. I hope you can get your symptoms controlled– you’ll be so much happier and more relaxed–and you deserve to be!

Q&A: How come all the weight charts tell me i am overweight?

Question by TuX: How come all the weight charts tell me i am overweight?
First off before I tell you anything, This is the weight I should be at according to the chart…
______________________________________________

Height = 6 Feet 0 inches
Weight = 140-184 pounds

So you probably figured i’m 6 inches tall obviously, But I don’t weigh anywhere inbetween 140 -184 pounds.
Infact I just recently lost about 40 pounds. I used to weigh 254 ibs and now I weigh 210 ibs thanks to the low carb diet. But what I don’t understand is I have no muscle mass, And no matter what I do from this point my body just doesn’t want me to lose anymore weight. Its stuck here saying “I like where im at” so its obviously comfotable to where my body isnt somehow allowing me to lose anymore. And im not sattisfied where im at. I want to get smaller around the belly. I still have a gut. What do I do from this point? I could result into drugs but thats FAR from what I want to do. Does anybody know how I can lose about 20-30 more pounds?

Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the daily calorie needs calculator http://straighthealth.com/pages/tools/caloriecalclb.html This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both.

That is a type of yoga right? I had UC for 5 years before they removed my colon. No doctor ever asked me to try it, but I was a really really sick kid, no meds ever worked for me. That would be an interesting thing to try, hopefully it helps someone, living with UC is not fun.
