Question by K S: Can and will Topamax reduce weight gain with the Prozac? – PLEASE HELP!!!?
Im using Prozac,60mg for OCD and it seems to be quiet effective. My appetite seems to be gone, but I seem to have constipation. I was previously on Zoloft, 175 mg, before I discontinued it due to costs and weight gain. I am using generic Prozac becuase its cheap and have started taking 25mg of Topamax with each Prozac capsule.
I am quite worried about the weight gain as I am athletic and I have gained 11 pounds with Zoloft. So far, after using Prozac for +-5 weeks my weight appears to be stable. I don`t want gain, and I want to get back to what I was. I do excerise and all, but it just bothers me. I do know what SSRIs are and how they work and their side effects and so on, so I don`t need an explanation – I also know about Wellbutrin and Effexor and so on. But generic prozac is CHEAP!!
My strategy is to take 25mg Topamax (Topiramate) tablets with every dose of Prozac (20mg) I take a 20mg dose three times a day.
Has any1 had any luck?Experiences/opinions/inputs and stories please?

Are you being prescribed the Topamax? What does your doctor say? I tried Topomax to combat weight gain and saw no real difference, certainly not enough to use it for that purpose alone. I totally feel your pain since I have gained about 50 lbs over the last ten years while getting my mental health care under control but all the medicines do is increase appetite. I found that a diet supplement helps with that better than an additional medication. Good luck.
