what’s better with fewer side effects lexapro or effexor?

Question by Heather V: what’s better with fewer side effects lexapro or effexor?
thinking about switching from lexapro to effexor, what has fewer side effects? Most things upset my stomach(diarrhea) and lexapro has actually calmed it down a lot. Sex drive??? Does effexor make you sleepy because lexapro sure does but then I get burst of energy. Need some insight.

I have a friend who takes effexor. He had problems with upset stomach at first, but the began taking it at night before bed, and it no longer bothered him. Oh, yeah he had no sex drive either.

my wife took effexor, it is speed, just like doing a line. she hated it. it made her tweek and made her start losing hair, we are not sure if she pulled it out or it fell out. she stopped taking it and everything is fine now.

I havent noticed any real side effects of lexapro yet. I heard effexor makes you feel like you are getting struck by lightning sometimes.
I hope lexapro doesnt have any side effects because I really need to take it. I havent been jerking off as much lately so I hope it isnt the medicine.

I’m not too sure about lexapro. But I’m loving effexor. The level of side effects depends on what dose, I’m on a low dose at 37.5, and the only thing I have to worry about is not taking it too late in the day or it might give you a hard time falling asleep. I have a friend that’s on 75 daily and it has definitely not interfered with her sex drive at all.
If you need an extreme high dose like 150, then of course you’ll start having all those negative antidepressant side effects.

Are you getting other therapy besides meds? Try to get a really good therapist who does cognitive techniques and get off the anti-depressants, My son was on effexor for years and it made him gain about 200 pounds and he was stable but still unpleasant to be around.

Then he was on Paxil and it was about the same. He is off all that now and makes the most progress when he has people around him that believe in him.

His OCD has disappeared since he went off those meds, he never had it will he was on those meds, make your own conclusions.

I certainly do not advocate going off meds alone with no help, I know they helped him initially but be careful and find the roots of the problem with a therapist and get off them eventually.

well i take effexor i now take 150mg’s now they start you out on a very low dose and then bump it up gradually what ever mg’s that you are on or is helping you the most is when they stop raising it. i do not really experiance any side affects with it except maybe some leg twitching which is not bad anough for me to stop taking it. no effexor does not make you sleepy at least not me, now for sex drive maybe just a tiny bit but not anough for me to stop taking it. but if you do change to it be sure not to miss a dose thats when you have the most side affects like nervousness, irratability, lightheadeness, some times nausea but not bad. but remember this is me not you it varies from person to person

I’ve been on Lexapro for about 2 months now, I started on a very low dose annd gradually worked my way up to 20mg. I had terrible side effects when I first went on it and each time I increased the dose – initially it made my symptons a lot worse but gradually gets better. I don’t have a great deal of sex drive at the moment, but if you’re concerned about it check with your therapist, it might be your reduced sex drive isn’t a result of the medication but rather your anxiety/depression.

I have the best results with Abilify instead of Lexapro. I’ve never tried Effexor.

I had sexual side-effects with Lexapro and none of that with Abilify.
